Ispirato a uno dei più lunghi e sanguinosi eventi della storia della polizia, un conflitto armato che nel 1997 cambiò per sempre il modus operandi del Los Angeles Police Department, 211 Rapina in corso (211 è proprio il codice che la polizia utilizza per indicare le rapine in corso), il film diretto da York Shackleton, racconta dell'assalto alla Bank of America a North Hollywood, avvenuto il 28 febbraio 1997, quando quattro spietati criminali armati e ben addestrati presero in ostaggio 26 persone, tra impiegati e clienti, provocando l'intervento di squadre speciali della LAPD e della SWAT con il supporto dell'Interpol, da tempo sulle tracce dei quattro rapinatori.
Ma sarà l'agente Chandler (Nicolas Cage) a prendere il comando della negoziazione che si rivelerà la più lunga e sanguinaria della storia americana.
