By his thirtieth birthday, “Steady Rollin’” Bob Margolin had already spent six years with Muddy Water’s band, including appearances in Marin Scorsese’s film The Last Waltz and at the White House for Jimmy Carter. Those years set the bar high, but Margolin has lived up to that early promise over the next thirty years, capturing two Blues Music Awards for Best Instrumentalist on Guitar and releasing a series of superb recordings, most recently Blues Around the World, containing eight originals.
In 2011, Margolin joined the Italian Mike Sponza Band (including bassist Mauro Tolot and drummer Moreno Buttinar) on a tour of Central Europe, leading to this studio recording. Sponza has been performing since the early 1990s, and the rhythmic interplay between these four fine musicians creates a sturdy backdrop for songs firmly rooted in traditional blues.
