Dik Trom is een vrolijke, eerlijke, beetje gezette jongen. Samen met zijn ouders woont hij in het knusse Dikkedam, waar iedereen net zo dik en uitbundig is als hij. Dan verhuist Dik met zijn ouders naar Dunhoven, waar niemand zo dik is als Dik. Het mooiste meisje van Dunhoven is Lieve, zo vindt Dik, maar Dik is niet de enige die zijn oog heeft laten vallen op de mooie Lieve. Ook Viktor, de brutale zoon van sportschoolhouder Dolf, dingt naar haar hand. De strijd tussen de twee kemphanen zal beslecht worden tijdens de lokale zomerwedstrijd.
