1992 saw Genesis embark on what was to become their last major world tour, in support of the "We Can't Dance" album.
Starting in Texas on the 4th of May, the band played 58 shows across the USA and Europe before treating the UK fans
to two enormous shows, one at Roundhay Park in Leeds and one at Knebworth Park near Stevenage, UK, scene of their
famous triumphant festival performance some 14 years previously.
As well as being the 60th and last date of the tour, the Knebworth show was broadcast on FM Radio Stations across
Europe and televised by Sky TV in the UK and various other European satellite channels.
Starting off with a rocking version of "Land Of Confusion" the band treated the worldwide audience to a fine selection
of their best music, ranging from the crowd friendly hit singles to the much more challenging tracks from their early
years, conveniently packaged together in an "Old Medly".
This, and the other lenghty tracks including the emotional "Fading Lights" and the menacing "Home By The Sea" certainly sold this music on one impressionable 13 year old who remembers sitting at home, ear pressed to the radio wondering how
he'd missed out on this incredible band for so long.
The band give their all over two and a half hours, and it is testament to the quality of the performance that parts of
the show ended up being used for the live albums "The Way We Walk" Volumes 1 & 2.
"You haven't seen the last of us..." declares Phil Collins as he leaves the stage.
Sadly, a short Autumn tour of theatres in the UK aside, that was indeed to be the last that we would see of the band in
that incarnation - but what a way to go.
This DVD captures the incredible performance of that hot Summer night in a hopefully definitive edition, using the picture
from a Master VHS tape of the German Premiere Channel live broadcast, and redubbed with the sound from the BBC Radio 1 FM
broadcast, offering much clearer audio with none of the sound problems which plagued the live TV broadcast. ~ James Hendry
