Based on the off-Broadway stage musical of the same name. The movie consists of 10 performers just like the Play.
8 eccentric modern day disciples follow the Christ figure around Manhattan reciting parables from the Gospels, interspersed with song and dance. The 10th performer is a bit perplexing. Just like in the Play, he plays John the Baptist through most of the movie, then without even a costume change, plays Judas at the end of the movie.
The acting is vaudevillian and cheesy. The 2 saving graces of this movie are : 1) The production and vocal performances are stellar.
