Taking over England's top football club Leeds United, previously successful manager Brian Clough's abrasive approach and his clear dislike of the players' dirty style of play make it certain there is going to be friction. Glimpses of his earlier career help explain both his hostility to previous manager Don Revie and how much he is missing right-hand man Peter Taylor who has loyally stayed with Brighton & Hove Albion.
1974. Don Revie, dopo tutte le vittorie conseguite con il Leeds United, diventa allenatore della nazionale inglese. Ha delle idee chiare su chi dovrebbe essere il suo successore ma la società ingaggia un altro. Si tratta di Brian Clough suo acerrimo rivale che ha fatto uscire il Derby County dalla seconda divisione fino a fargli vincere il campionato contro il Leeds che da sempre accusa di pesanti scorrettezze in campo troppo poco sanzionate dagli arbitri. Ora Clough, che si è separato dal suo vice Peter Taylor, deve vedersela con una squadra che è rimasta legata al precedente coach.
