ENG: When the Soviet Union on 17 September 1939 invades Poland, Anna Aleksandrowna leaves her home in Krakow to search for her husband, the Polish captain Andrzej. She finds him together with other officers captured by the Red Army, but some minutes later he is pushed into a train, which will take all the Polish officers to a prison camp in Kozelsk in Russia. Anna and her daughter Nika is now stuck in the Soviet occupied zone, unable to go back to Krakow in the German zone, not until a brave Russian captain helps them to flee. 3 April 1940 Andrzej is transported from the prison camp in Kozelsk to the Katyn Forest, where thousands of Polish officers are killed. In 1943 the Germans capture this area and find the mass graves. 13 April 1943 they start announcing the names of the identified corpses through loudspeakers in Krakow. Anna is happy that Andrzej is not in any of the Katyn lists, which gives her some hope. 18 January 1945 the Red Army liberates Krakow from the Nazis. The Russians start blaming the Katyn Massacre on the Germans, proclaiming that it happened in 1941 instead of 1940. Everybody knows that this isn't true, but those who refuse to accept the Soviet version are imprisoned or killed by the Red Army.
ITA: Quando il 17 settembre 1939 l'Unione Sovietica invade la Polonia, Anna Aleksandrowna lascia la sua casa di Cracovia per cercare suo marito, il capitano polacco Andrzej. Lo trova insieme ad altri ufficiali catturati dall'Armata Rossa, ma qualche minuto dopo viene spinto in un treno che porterà tutti gli ufficiali polacchi in un campo di prigionia a Kozelsk, in Russia. Anna e sua figlia Nika sono ora bloccate nella zona occupata dai sovietici e non possono tornare a Cracovia, nella zona tedesca, finché un coraggioso capitano russo non le aiuta a fuggire. Il 3 aprile 1940 Andrzej viene trasportato dal campo di prigionia di Kozelsk alla foresta di Katyn, dove vengono uccisi migliaia di ufficiali polacchi. Nel 1943 i tedeschi catturano quest'area e trovano le fosse comuni. Il 13 aprile 1943 iniziano ad annunciare i nomi dei cadaveri identificati attraverso gli altoparlanti di Cracovia. Anna è felice che Andrzej non figuri in nessuno degli elenchi di Katyn, il che le dà qualche speranza. Il 18 gennaio 1945 l'Armata Rossa libera Cracovia dai nazisti. I russi iniziano a dare la colpa del massacro di Katyn ai tedeschi, proclamando che è avvenuto nel 1941 e non nel 1940. Tutti sanno che non è vero, ma chi si rifiuta di accettare la versione sovietica viene imprigionato o ucciso dall'Armata Rossa.
