Note : 80s schlockmaster George P. Cosmatos delivers again in this Peter Weller-starring enclosed space killer animal horror, where Weller battles a vicious rat to the death. It's no Rats: Night of Terror, but it milks ever last ounce of tension out of its fairly limited premise, and has some pretty satisfying moments, as well as a series of nauseatingly detailed close-ups of parts of the rat. Cast also includes Jennifer Dale, Shannon Tweed, Lawrence Dane, Kenneth Welsh, Maury Chaykin, and Louis Del Grande, who you might remember as the guy whose head spectacularly explodes in Scanners. Oh, and this is apparently one of Stephen King's favorite horror movies.
Bart Hughes is a NYC investment banker who has it all; recently renovated Manhattan brownstone, future softporn star wife whose family is loaded, a son who's totally useless at making breakfast, and an upwardly mobile job. He opts to stay at home to dedicate his time to a work project for two weeks while his family vacations in Vermont with his father in law, but his plans, his calm, and finally his mental state are all put into peril by the arrival of a huge rat that chews up his belongings, destroys furniture, attacks him while he sleeps, and nests in his basement with its squirming pink offspring. As Bart's sanity declines, he ignores his work, his hot for him secretary, and the calls from his vacationing family to focus on a singular task: Kill or be killed.
This transfer is a middle of the road scan from an interpositive, and as such looks fine, but not great, but at least contrast and color are pretty decent, and grain is reasonably controlled. Stereo sound is fine, commentary track quite interesting and entertaining.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “ hevk creature” for more killer animals and other living things, “ hevk psychological horror” for more precarious mental states, or “ hevk canadian” for more from the country that's produced a huge amount of interesting horror, although half of it pretends to be set in the US.

Bart Hughes has a pretty good life, a beautiful wife, a young son, a good job with promotion prospects, and a renovated brownstone in New York. When wife and kid leave for a vacation, Bart stays behind to work on a project that will earn him that promotion, unaware that a certain inhabitant of his basement has other plans for his time. Bart goes a bit bonkers trying to kill this rat, destroying most of his house in the process. Certain allegorical elements tie the household conflict to the "rat race" in his office, but the main event is certainly the night-and-day contest of wills between man and rodent.
