Recording information: 1964 - 1977. Producer Richard Seidel put together an excellent compilation with the tracks heard on this installment of Columbia's JAZZ MOODS series. It's not easy choosing the brightest moments of a jazz legend like saxophonist Stan Getz, since he's appeared on so many releases, and his musicianship is consistently so astonishing. However, Seidel's choice of repertoire here holds up to even the harshest of jazz standards. "Double Rainbow," "Ligia," and "Aguas De Marco" from Getz's collaborations with Joao Gilberto are unforgettable tracks that represent a central aspect of Getz's career--his fascination with Brazilian bossa nova. However, Getz's jazzier work with pianist Jimmy Rowles and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer are also included here, and these selections help to round out the album's track list. Rowles's impressionistic ballad "The Peacocks" is probably the collection's high point. Here the haunting melody is both sweet and sorrowful, and Getz's silky, legato tone is enough to induce goose bumps.
