Sylvester Cotton/Andrew Dunham Blues Sensation: Detroit Downhome Recordings 1948-49 Label : Ace
Released: 2003
Format : [email protected]
First time on CD for these incredibly rare early solo blues performances from the early 1950s, originally cut for Sensation Records of Detroit. - Little is known about either Sylvester Cotton or Andrew Dunham, other than that both were close associates of the late John Lee Hooker and that their sessions were cut by the man who supervised all of Hooker's early record dates, the late Bernard Besman. There are many shades of Hooker's early work in the recordings of both men, Cotton especially. - Only three of these recordings were issued at the time of recording. Many have never been released prior to this CD's issue - Pure, unadulterated down-home blues, as raw and rootsy as it gets!
