Note : This 1982 slasher was originally written as a parody of slasher films, but then the producers decided to play it more straight, although it still has more humor than is typical of slashers of its time. It's also notable for being one of the few (the only, maybe?) 80s slashers written and directed by women, and for being the feature debut of scream queen Brinke Stevens.
The story is straightforward and wastes little time, a murderer has escaped from prison just as a group of high school girls are planning a slumber party, although one of them, as well as another minor character, get offed before night even falls. Said murderer has a predilection for using a large power drill, and the girls have a predilection for long and meaningless conversations about baseball results, local gossip, and random stuff they read in the newspaper (remember that?) Things rapidly go downhill when the pizza delivery guy shows up dead with injuries that would logistically have been hard to pull off, and both the girls' coach and the girl next door, who's babysitting her younger sister, have to come to the rescue.
This remaster looks quite good, not much to complain about at all, really, good color and contrast, maybe slightly more noise reduction than I would have liked, but there's still some ok grain left. Sound is fine, commentary track informative.
