A former astronaut helps a government agent and a police detective track the source of mysterious alien
pod spores, filled with lethal flesh-dissolving acid, to a South American coffee plantation controlled
by alien pod clones.
An alien cyclops causes a man to cover the Earth with nasty eggs
(sometimes made of silicone, sometimes close-ups of common olives). The eggs release gelatinous gunk which
makes people explode, and it's all part of the alien's plan to take over the world.
Cozzi, a less-talented protégé of Dario Argento, at least gets a good soundtrack by using his mentor's house
band, Goblin, but delivers a bad film nonetheless. The director admits that the ludicrous monster was made of
badly painted papier-mache, requiring 96 separate cuts to look convincing in its big scene. It didn't work.

Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, the screenwriters behind the highly successful Alien, turned their attention to
earthbound terrors with this creepy horror tale. Dead and Buried focuses on Dan Gillis (James Farentino), a man who
has recently returned to his hometown of Potter's Bluff to be its sheriff. His job becomes difficult when a series of
strangers who visit Potter's Bluff begin dying in violent and mysterious ways. To make matters worse, his wife,
Janet (Melody Anderson), has begun to act strangely, taking an odd interest in voodoo and acting like she might be
having an affair.
As the murder victims pile up, Gillis discovers that all his troubles have an occult origin that has to do with the town's
elderly mortician, Dobbs (Jack Albertson, in his final feature film role). Gillis gets to the bottom of the mystery, only
to discover that the truth is much worse than he imagined.
Despite effective direction and solid acting, Dead and Buried got lost in the shuffle of the early '80s horror boom and failed
to click with the movie-going public. However, it later gained an audience via home video and cable and remains a minor cult
favorite today thanks to its singular blend of creepy atmosphere and gruesome shocks.

Director Tobe Hooper's follow-up to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre presents yet another Southern-fried psycho
(this time in Louisiana) in the form of a scripture-mumbling, one-legged cracker named Judd (Neville Brand).
The proprietor of a seedy bayou inn, Judd keeps a pet gator in the nearby swamp, to which he frequently tosses
the remains of his unfortunate victims,including anyone who offends his delicate sensibilities. One such casualty
is Harvey Wood (Mel Ferrer), arriving at Judd's hotel in search of his missing daughter... who, unbeknownst to
her old man, has already met her own doom courtesy of the scythe-wielding madman. Other patrons include one of the
most annoying families on record, with Chainsaw veteran Marilyn Burns as the strangely-bewigged mom, William Finley
as the browbeaten husband and future Halloween tyke Kyle Richards as the endlessly-shrieking daughter
(whose adorable puppy becomes a light gator-snack).
Nightmare on Elm Street fans can spot a young, pre-Freddy Robert Englund in a small role as a lecherous cracker.
Originally titled Death Trap and known by many aliases, including Starlight Slaughter, Horror Hotel Massacre and
Legend of the Bayou.

On a trip through the unexplored jungle between Thailand and Burma, English photographer John Bradley (Ivan Rassimov)
gets captured by a primitive tribe, who hold him prisoner for a while. After some time, however, Bradley falls in love
with the tribe's beauty Maraya (the ravishing Me Me Lai), who is the daughter of the tribe's chief, and becomes assimilated
to the tribe...
The film features a lot of sleaze, but it is not nearly as shocking or nauseating as the Cannibal films to come. This is
therefore probably the most recommendable Cannibal film for the sensitive when it comes to violence
(allthough these people are probably best advised to stay away from the genre in general). Like most entries to the genre
the film does feature real animal-killings, and the scenes add a lot of authenticity to the atmosphere. The great late Ivan Rassimov
was one of the greats in Italian exploitation cinema, especially in Cannibal Flicks. As always, Rassimov delivers an excellent
performance. Me Me Lai is stunningly beautiful, and she fits extremely well in the female lead of Maraya, arguably the most lovable
character ever in a Cannibal flick. THE beauty of the sub-genre, Me Me Lai appeared in this film, as well as "Cannibal Ferox" and
Deodato's "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale". Apart from the Cannibal flicks, she sadly did not have many memorable roles before she left the
film business in the 80s.
"Il Paese Del Sesso Selvaggio" is THE pioneering Cannibal flick, and yet it is an adventure film and even a romance more than it is
a Horror film about cannibals. While "Cannibal Holocaust" is the only true masterpiece of the sub-genre, this one is also a highly
interesting film that no lover of Italian Exploitation-cinema should consider missing. Most of the Cannibal flicks have their own
particular qualities, but this one is quite unique.
